		Dr. Fernando Riviere de Caralt created the garden shortly after buying the land in 1945. The formation of the gardens required years of intense work. The specimens which increased the size of the collections over the years proceeded, in some cases, from their natural habitat, and in other cases from botanical gardens, private collections and nurseries from all over the world. The garden is comprised of more than 7.000 species. Among them, some such as the collections of aloes, agave, yucca and opuntias are considered as among the best in Europe or in the world.
